Are you ready to open your heart and home to a Dog in need? Here at Island of Misfit Dogs, we’re dedicated to finding loving forever homes for these amazing dogs. Below, you’ll find all the information you need to start your journey towards adopting a furry friend.
Adoption Process
Our adoption process is designed to ensure that both you and the Husky find the perfect match. Here’s an overview of the steps involved:
- Application: Start by filling out our adoption application form. This helps us understand your lifestyle, preferences, and expectations, allowing us to match you with compatible dogs.
- Application Processing: We will review your application, call your references, and your vet. Please make sure they are aware that we are calling because this can make the process faster.
- Home Visit: A member of our team will conduct a home visit to assess your living environment and ensure it’s suitable.
- Meet and Greet: Once your application is approved, you’ll have the opportunity to meet your favorite pup.
- Trial Period: We believe in the importance of ensuring a successful match. Therefore, we require a 2 week ‘sleepover’ during which you can spend time with the dog in your home environment before making a final decision.
- Finalization: If everything goes well during the trial period and both you and the dog are happy, we’ll finalize the adoption process. You’ll sign the necessary paperwork and officially welcome your new family member home.
Adoption Fees
Our adoption fees vary depending on factors such as the age, health, and needs of the dog. However, they typically range from:
Dogs up to 1 year: $400
Dogs 1 year and older: $350
These fees help cover the costs of vaccinations, spaying/neutering, microchipping, and other medical expenses incurred while the dog is in our care.
Each dog adopted from the rescue receives the following:
- Complete veterinary examination
- Routine vaccines
- Spay or neuter
- Microchip
- Flea and tick preventative
